Running outdoors during winter!

I've decided to give my fears  of running outdoors in winter the finger.
Today I bought Icebugs !!!
I also bought a running jacket for winter.
Now I can't wait for snow and ice!!!!

Maybe I'll be able to test these babies on Friday and/or Sunday?!

GOHARD!

First full-body workout in a while. 
Indoor cycling for 30 mins, followed by approx 40 mins of strength training. 
Different variations of squats, planks, core training in general.

Nov 20th was Globally Organzed Hug A Runner Day, GOHARD.
I managed to get some hugs :)
Fun day. Then again I think EVERY day is Hug A Runner Day!!

Half marathons, here I come!

Now I can check "Run a marathon" and "Run NYC Marathon" off my bucket list.
It was a lot of fun yes don't get me wrong but not quite my thing.
From now on I'm going to concentrate on half marathons and a finishing time around 2,5 hours. 
Now I waddle a half marathon in 3 hours.
Next big challenge: 2015 NYC Half Marathon!

2013 is the Summer of Running!

The Summer of Running has officially begun!
Yesterday, June 1st, 10 + 2 km.
It's quite hot here  (nearly +30C) at the moment and I'm not very fond of running in blazing sunshine.
I'll still do my best, running in the sunshine is good training for the Paavo Nurmi half at the end of June.

Today I'm thinking of jogging down to the river and back. I'll start out after midday when the shops have opened, in case I need to buy more water or something to eat. I'll jog along the way the bus goes, just in case... :)

Glorious Tuesday!

Feels great!
I did a 7 km slowish very nice jog towards the Hirvensalo bridge, mainly flat pavement all the way, uphills at the Hirvensalo end, turned around and jogged back. Stopped at 7 km and powerwalked home.
Following weeks at home I focus on 15 km jogs! I know I can do them.
And at the end of June it's the Paavo Nurmi Marathon , I've signed up for the half. A nice  summer outing to Ruissalo and back to town :)

Yesterday I had a session with my PT Jussi at Elixia Centrum . Full-body circuit training!

The Summer Of Running has begun!

Cycling Saturday!

Yesterday's theme was: CYCLING!

Cycling to the gym. 2 hr Xycling Marathon. Cycling home.
Cycling to town to a friend's place to watch the ESC final in the evening. Cycling home.

Two hours of pop and rock music at full blast, two energetic and  fun indoor cycling instructors yelling at us :)
Another instructor came in with juice and water every now and then, walked around the room pouring drinks. Excellent service!
The Xycling Marathon participants each got a goodie bag! Gift cards, juice, protein bar...

Today I'm going outdoors for a run.

Gym and run

Yesterday was a good gym day.
New PB in indoors rowing; 28,36 min!
I also did some abs in the TRX and general full-body strength training.

Today I've just done a 4 km jog outdoors. Forgot sunscreen and a hat, had to cut the run short. Sun shining from clear sky.
New try tomorrow after Finland's icehockey victory over Sweden :)

Crazy week at work

Crazy week at work, not much opportunities to go to the gym.
Managed to get in a 10 km Wattbike ride on Monday afternoon.
Felt good to get the blood pumping in my body again :) !

This week at home will be a week of long runs, preferably outdoors.

Running outdoors at work!

I ran outdoors at work for the first time on Thursday! There's a sort of track on deck 12. Approx 300 m?
It was a bit windy in Thu and I'd left my running jacket at home, it honestly got a bit cold in just running pants and a t-shirt! I did not give up and managed 40 mins in the (sometimes) icecold wind.
Can't wait for the weather to get WARMER, then I'll do 20 burpees after each round on deck! Too cold now to touch the deck.

Short and sweet intervals

I focused on speed and uphill intervals at work this week.
I had the opportunity to go five times to the gym, the treadmill was vacant each time. 2 x 15 mins intervals each time. Felt good.
Pressed schedule at work, not time for longer workouts this time.

Now I've finally moved home-home. This week I'll do my first proper long runs for this season!
Bring it on, I'm ready!!!

Feeling good!

Now I'm going to start focusing on running (outdoors).
Gym yes, but not that much that often. Running outdoors on my weeks at home is #1.
I'm going to work tomorrow night, might not have the opportunity to go running before that. People places and things happen. I'll do a session on my indoors bike at home tomorrow if I can't go outdoors for a run!

On Friday I did a 70 mins run outdoors in Göteborg, city running. Pavement. Some uphill. good weather.

Today I did a session with my PT Jussi.
TRX and speed intervals on the treadmill. Planks with both feet in the TRX! My new favourite plank! Will do more!

Tuesday

On Tuesday I jogged 10 km along the river, the western side which doesn't have much snow and ice anymore.
Homework done, now I can do what I want at the gym for the rest of the week!

Monday workouts

On Monday I had a session with my PT. Upper body iron pumping. Did my body good.
He gave me homework: 12 and 10 km jogs.
So on Monday afternoon I put on my running shoes and did a 12 km jog!
Some of the route was quite snowy and icy; especially in the parks and along the Eastern side of the river. Slowed me down quite a bit.
10-12 km were like syrup. My shoes wouldn't leave the ground, but I did not give up.
What a feeling when the Nike Running program on my phone finally announcefd 12 km done!!

Sunday cardio

Today I did 1 hour of cycling intervals with 80's pop blasting in my ears.
Warm-up was 2,5 km rowing.
Afterwards #plankaday and stretching!

After the workout I met with some friends at the Nepalese place across the street from the gym.
had tandoori chicken with cashew nut and cream sauce. Delicious!!!

Saturday cardio

Rest day from running.
Went to the gym.
45 mins spinning with various pop blasting in my ears. Speed intervals.
Afterwards #plankaday and sit-ups.

And quite a lot of walking outdoors in the lovely sunshine!

Tested my new shoes Friday night!

Jogged nearly 9 km in my new Nike shoes on Friday night! Some of the route was still snowy and icy so I had to walk.
The new shoes are great!! And they're pink! I'm going to run like a gazelle in New York in pink shoes :)

First outdoors run!

First outdoors run for this season DONE! 6 km by the River Aura. Suomen Joutsen-Turku Cathedral-Turku Castle. Quite a lot of snow and ice by the castle.

Signed, sealed, delivered, I'm yours!

I have printed, filled out, signed, sealed, and mailed my letter to the Central Park Conservancy about joining Team Central Park on Sunday Nov 3rd for the 2013 ING NYC Marathon!
I have no idea what I've gotten myself into, I just know I'll have to live in the gym until then :)

I had a hectic Easter at work but managed to get a few workouts done.
My legs tend to get quite tired after a few days at work, so I'm going to concentrate on indoor cycling and strength training while there.
The Wattbike has arrived, it is working and I'm loving it!
I've already got my yellow TdF-jersey in my work bag :)
And I've updated my "Running" playlist, it'll be my "Cycling" playlist from now on. Different tempo songs.

Today I'm going to try something new: balletone 
I'll thunder away on the treadmill before the balletone class, still have some homework undone.

It's official!!

2013 NYC Marathon, look out, here I come!
Today I received the confirmation email from Central Park Conservancy about joining Team Central Park on Sunday Nov 3rd!! Woo hoo!!!
I'm so happy!!

To celebrate I jogged 5 km at the gym playing with the incline button. 1-4 at 1,5 incline, 4-5 km was 1,5-4 incline.

Afterwards a short and sweet strength session.

We're getting one more gym, and the equipment for it is arriving.
Today I took a look and found a state of the art Wattbike waiting for me :)
I don't know when the new gym will be ready. I'm so excited about the Wattbike! Must remember to bring my TdF-jersey with me to work from now on LOL!

Circuit training with PT

Today I did a circuit training session with my PT. Kettlebells, push-ups, planks, squats etc. Very basic and good workout.
Got a sheet with homework marked on it, tomorrow I do my first homework assignment for this week!
Feels just like being back in school :)

Friday incline workout

On Friday I played around with the incline button on the treadmill, much more intense to jog at a slow pace with a 1,5-2 incline!
Felt good though.
25 mins of incline jogging, followed by a short and sweet strength session.

I'm back!

Things got a bit hectic at work -> no time for workouts (honest!).
Now I'm home again with plenty of time for the gym!
Today I warmed up by rowing 2 km, then jogged for 25 mins, followed by 25 mins indoor cycling. Grande Finale #plankaday , sit-ups and stretching!
Feels good to be back!!!

Workout at work


I had the afternoon off at work. I took a powernap and then I went to the gym.
21 mins speedwork on the treadmill. After that some squats (20 kg on the Smith machine), and of course #plankaday!

Meryl Streep was 45 when she did The River Wild and apparently did her own stunts.
I will waddle from Staten Island to Central Park at age 41 and 11 months.
I will do it!

Still winter

It'll take a while before all the snow and ice are gone and I can go running outdoors.



Monday PT session

I had a session with my PT on Monday.
He made me run really hard (for me) speed intervals and as icing on the cake we did a circuit training session.

Today I can move without pain-pain but I do feel yesterday's  session in my body. Which is a good thing I guess?

Basic cardio workout

Today I did a pretty basic cardio workout: 3 km jogging on the treadmill followed by 30 mins indoor cycling. Then #plankaday and stretching.
I feel good and super inspired now that I've decided to buy a charity place in NYC Marathon. No hazzle, I only need to concentrate on training and planning my trip.

Huge decision

I've made a huge decision: I'm going to get myself a charity (read: guaranteed race place) race place in 2013 ING New York City Marathon , I've contacted The Central Park Conservancy for a race place in their 2013 team.
Central Park is my #1 favourite spot in NYC so why not waddle for them?
Now I will be able to fully concentrate on training and planning, no need to think about whether I'll be accepted into the race or not, and what to do if I don't get accepted yada yada yada...

Today I had a tight schedule but managed to row 2 km, jog 5 km speed intervals, do #plankaday and some sit-ups.

Good gym workout!

2 km rowing, 5 km treadmill jogging (speed intervals), 2 km indoor cycling, 30 mins strength training.
Today I did 3 x 10 James Browns with 6 kg weights! When I first did James Brown in summer 2012 I had 3 kg weights and thought I would die. PROGRESS!

Still a while until I can go running/cycling outdoors.
Have to wait for the snow and ice to melt.
Took a walk by the river before going to the gym.

Tired body

First day at home after work.
Body still tired from work.
Managed a short workout at the gym. Rowing and jogging as warm-up. Then a full-body strength session. Abs, 4x 10 up and down plank (I'm beginning to 'get' them!), 12 kg kettlebell swing, lunges and squats with a 15 kg powerbag on my shoulders.

5 km jogging regular pace on the treadmill. Planks. Squats. Lunges. Stretching.

This n that

Today I jogged 4 km on the treadmill while watching the ladies' 10 cross-country skiing race.
After that I did some strength training. Squats, #plankaday , kettlebell, abs...
I slept in a funny position and my left arm and shoulder are a bit sore. It set some limitations to the workout today.

I'm going to work tonight, will plank, squat and do abs in my cabin on a daily basis.There, now that I've said it I'll also have to do it!
Will go to the gym whenever my schedule allows.

Rowing and uphill walking as warm-up. Then 50 mins circuit training with my PT:
Squats (15 kg barbell on my shoulders)
lunges (15 kg barbell on my shoulders)
abs
boxing
kettlebell forward swing..
And of course: #plankaday!
Tomorrow I will be sore. That will however not stop me as Saturday is Cardio Day!
Now I've had a bowl of avocado and broccoli pasta. A little garlic olive oil to add some great flavour.

Today was Cardio Day. Jogging on treadmill, indoor rowing, indoor cycling. And of course #plankaday !

My goals for 2013:
Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon in October in London (I've secured my race place by running for charity,  Battersea Dogs And Cats Home).
ING NYC Marathon. They're still cleaning up after Sandy. I'll do my best to get a race place (anyone have $3000 so I could get a charity race place?). Wish me luck!
